Harder Than It Sounds

Wow! Can you believe it’s almost the end of March? I’m still trying to get used to writing 2017 instead of 2016 and we’re already done with a quarter of this year.

The biggest thing I’ve learned lately is that everything is a lot harder than it sounds, but that’s always the case. The last time I blogged was last year… Damn, I thought I could do better.  The same goes for all of my New Year’s resolutions. I barely made it through the first week of them.

One I’m proud of is that I managed to keep my resolution to be vegan. I’m especially proud of this one because you will not believe all I gave up, things I never thought I could say bye to. That actually turned out to be much easier than I thought and this made me wonder how come this didn’t happen with all of my New Year’s resolutions.

The easiest answer I can think of is that you have to want it bad enough or care about it a lot. I think the biggest problem we make when making resolutions, whether for the New Year or just because you want a “new you”, is that we do it halfheartedly. Sure, in that moment we are super motivated and passionate about it but eventually it slows down and then completely stops. So, again… why?

One of the main reasons for me is that I make it very unrealistic. It’s something I can handle for a week but after that I get preoccupied and then completely forget about it. I make lame excuse or just get so exhausted that I can’t summon any willpower to push through. This got me thinking on how I could combat this… and honestly I have no idea.

I’ve tried telling other people so that I’m accountability. However, the only thing that happens is I make up excuses to fool them or worse… I lie! I’ve tried planning my time so that I fit in everything I want but then I forget what I’m supposed to do or just get bored of the routine.

This leads me to only one more option… make more realistic resolutions. Mainly because it is nearly impossible to be able to turn over a completely new leaf over night. The truth is everything takes time. So start off small and build it up little by little. Eventually you will get to where you want to be, you just need to be patient and learn to work with what you have to get what you want.

This is my new challenge. I’d love to hear what you have to say and how you’re going along with your resolutions so comment below. And if you have any tips on how to keep resolutions then share those as well.

Have a great day, Beautiful People
